Substitute Teaching

Substitute Teaching Procedures in Branch County

To be eligible to substitute teach, you will need a minimum of 60 semester hours of college credit or an associate degree from a college, university, or community college.  The 60 semester hours do not need to be from the same college, university, or community college.

There are two (2) Michigan legislative requirements that all schools in Michigan must follow before employing a substitute teacher:

  1. Criminal Records Check & FBI Record Check– Includes fingerprinting which is currently done at the Branch County Sheriff Department. The applicant must pay the processing fee.

  2. Unprofessional Conduct Check – EDUStaff is required to contact any current or past employers to make certain there has been no unprofessional misconduct.

Branch ISD substitute work pays $100 per day, $55 per half-day

*(Check with the Local districts for their pay and other policies)
