Health Professions Pathway

If you have ever imagined yourself caring for newborns, performing surgery, diagnosing illnesses, working in a busy trauma center or in some way providing care for people, then the Health Professions Pathway might be for you. Healthcare careers are among the fastest growing in the country now, and the increase in life expectancy means more workers will be needed into the future.

At the Branch Area Careers Center, we have teachers, mentors and working professionals ready to show you the possibilities and help you get started on the healthcare future of your dreams. In the classroom, you’ll learn the skills and knowledge necessary to be successful in college and beyond. Through clinical rotations, you’ll explore specific careers firsthand.

First Year Options

The following programs are available to juniors and first year seniors

Health Professions Fundamentals

  • Foundational Health Care Concepts

  • Human Anatomy/Physiology

  • CPR/First Aid Certification

  • May apply for Health Professions second year options for senior year. A summer CNA program is also an option.

    KCC Dual Enrollment College Courses

    • Introduction to Communications(3 cr)

    • Introduction to Psychology (3 cr)

    • If student has already completed the above courses, an alternate course(s) that fits the student's schedule is offered.

  • A KCC Accuplacer reading score of 244+ or an equivalent PSAT score required for program acceptance.

Second Year Options

The following programs are available after successful completion and teacher recommendation of the first year Health Professions program

Clinical OJT

  • On-the-job Training

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

  • Summer Program (3 weeks)

  • Open to students accepted into:

    • Clinical OJT

    • Clinical Rotations

    • Clinical Rotations + College

    • Clinical Medical Certifications

Clinical Rotations

  • Unpaid Clinical Rotations

  • Patient Care Curriculum

  •  Requirements

    • Good Academic Standing

  • Most Rigorous Option

  • Unpaid Clinical rotations

  • KCC Courses: Two classes offered to fit each student's class needs.

  •  Requirements

    • GPA 3.0

    • KCC Accuplacer reading score of 244+. PSAT/ SAT paper reading score of 25, or a digital PSAT/SAT score of 480-800.

    • Personal Interview

    • Home-school Teacher Recommendation form- for students selecting BIOL 201/BIOL 202 as their dual enrollment course.

*Clinical Medical Certifications:

Medical certifications offers a free healthcare industry recognized certification such as:

  • Phlebotomy Technician

  • EKG Technician

  • Pharmacy Technician

  • Plus others

  • Additional certification options may be available

Requirements:

  1. GPA 3.0

  2. PSAT/SAT paper reading score of 25+, PSAT/SAT digital score of 480-800 or achieve a KCC reading Accuplacer assessment score of 244+.

  3. Personal Interview

These certifications may lead to paid or unpaid clinical opportunities for seniors. Paid positions require an interview and hire by employer.
