Owen Wortz is a senior from Reading High School and attends the Branch Area Careers Center’s Environmental & Agri-Science program. His On-The-Job-Training placement is a Shop Mechanic with the Branch County Road Commission under the supervision of Jason Trott. Owen is responsible for performing regular maintenance on heavy equipment, diagnose and repair broken equipment, and some fabrication. Owen’s favorite part of his job is always learning and doing something new. He feels that he has improved his skills with hydraulics and has gotten better at engine repair. Owen’s future plans are to complete the 13th year program, obtain his CDL and a semester of diesel mechanic school. Ultimately, he plans a career working with heavy trucks. At Reading High School, Owen is a member of the varsity football, wrestling, and track teams. He is also a member of the varsity club and serves on prom and homecoming committees. At the BACC, Owen is an FFA member and has earned his Greenhand, Outstanding Junior, Chapter, and State degrees. He has competed in Creed Speaking, Greenhand Public Speaking, and spring skills. He recently won silver in Extemporaneous Speaking at the Michigan FFA State Conference. He is also a member of the BACC’s National Technical Honor Society. In his spare time, Owen enjoys working in the shop on vehicles, hanging out with his friends and girlfriend, and hunting. Owen is the son of Nate and Jen Wortz.
