Xochitl Garcia is a senior attending Bronson High School and is enrolled in the Early Education program at the Branch Area Careers Center. Xochitl is employed through the On-The-Job Training program at Branch Intermediate School District’s Early Education and Special Education program as a Teacher Cadet. Her supervisors are Charlene Fincham and Mindy Travelbee. Her job duties include supervising children with special needs in a community preschool setting. She also works with students’ individual applied behavior analysis (ABA) goals and objectives. She supervises play time and directs developmentally appropriate play and social skill activities.
Xochitl feels her OJT placement has helped her realize the love she has for children and teaching. Xochitl feels the best part of her OJT training is watching the children grow and prosper. She is the parliamentarian of Family Career and Community Leaders of America club at the BACC. Last year, Xochitl received the FCCLA Spirit Award, State Community Service Activity Bronze Level, and Early Education silver level. She also has a certificate of completion in Infant Safe Sleep, Fetal Alcohol Awareness and PRE-CIASS.
At Bronson High School, Xochitl is a Cross Country three time state qualifier and this year was Top Ten in Michigan. She competes with Varsity Track, Varsity Competitive Cheer, and Varsity Sideline cheer. She is a member of St. Mary’s Church youth group and is on the Academic Honor roll. Her plan after graduation is to pursue a degree in special education with an emphasis in early childhood education. In her spare time, Xochitl enjoys running and spending time with her family. Xochitl is the daughter of Anastacio Garcia and Jovita Perez.
