Branch ISD selects Kristine Jenkins as next Superintendent

The Branch ISD Board of Education voted unanimously Tuesday night to offer the position of Superintendent to current Calhoun ISD Assistant Superintendent Kristine Jenkins. The Board conducted second-round interviews with Jenkins Tuesday night after interviewing Assistant Superintendent for the Gogebic-Ontonagon ISD, Nicholas Steinmetz Monday night. Following Jenkins’ interview, the Board deliberated and voted 5-0 to offer her the position. Board President Ken Norton called Jenkins, made sure she knew she was on “speakerphone” and let her know she was approved unanimously – a statement that was followed by applause from the 20+ people who were in attendance.
Norton said of Jenkins, “Kristine is a great fit for the candidate profile, and she made an excellent impression during both interviews. We all look forward to working with Mrs. Jenkins to move our ISD forward.”
In response to the offer Jenkins said, “I am honored and excited to be the next Branch ISD Superintendent. I look forward to years of serving the citizens of Branch County. I would also like to thank the BISD Board and everyone for the tremendous support I have received throughout the process.”
Search Consultant Gary Rider, of the Michigan Leadership Institute, said the Board was responsive and purposeful throughout the process. He said, “The Board did an outstanding job of listening to feedback during the process, and they kept to their commitment to assess candidates against the profile that was developed.”
Kristine Jenkins has served as Assistant Superintendent of Regional Career & Technical Education for the Calhoun ISD for the past fourteen years. Prior to this work, Mrs. Jenkins served as an Elementary Principal, grant writer, and teacher in her fourteen years with the Tekonsha Community Schools. She holds a Masters degree in K-12 Educational Leadership from Michigan State University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from Eastern Michigan University.
