Alex Tyer is a senior at Bronson High School and a student in the Computer Networking Technologies program at the Branch Area Careers Center. Alex serves as Technology Support at ZipSpider, Inc. located in Angola under the supervision of Del Smith. Alex’s duties include end user support regarding technology problems, troubleshooting and programming consumer end equipment. Alex believes his OJT training has helped him by teaching him the skills that cannot be learned in a classroom, such as how to communicate effectively with customers and coworkers over the phone, as well as in person. He has also learned how to put his classroom skills to use in the real world when making service calls for customers and having to identify a problem with no set of predetermined instructions. His favorite part of OJT is going to work each day and troubleshooting and solving customer issues.
His future plans are to attend Kellogg Community College and then transfer to a university to pursue a degree in Information Technology with a minor in Computer Science. Alex earned his CompTIA A+ certification as a junior last school year at the BACC. Alex is a member of the BACC’s Business Professionals of America club and competed in locals, regionals, and the State Leadership Conference. At Bronson High School, Alex participates in Varsity Wrestling and various student body activities. In his spare time, Alex enjoys expanding and increasing his understanding of technology. Alex’s parents are Melanie Myers and Billie Myers.
