The focus during first semester will be on residential construction. Students will learn to safely operate portable power tools and hand tools used in the construction trade. We will explore various stages of home building such framing, sheathing, siding and roofing. Students will also have a little experience with residential wiring. Blue print reading, safety and measurement will be important in all we do. Each student will build a construction related project such as picnic table, work bench or hunting shack, which they can purchase and take home. We will also work on other projects for the learning experience.
The focus during second semester will be on cabinetmaking and woodworking. Students will learn to safely operate woodworking machines such as table saw, band saw, jointer, miter saw, etc. Students will also experience a variety woodworking processes and techniques in machining, joinery, assembly and finishing. Blue print reading, safety and measurement will be important in all we do. Students will be building a project to take home, but it will be built with flavor of manufacturing as the class works together through the different processes
